Red-light cameras all about the money
Some lawmaker has mentioned easing up on issuing citations for the violation of making a right turn on red. He cited the fact it doesn't pose a traffic safety problem. But he does not realize the opposition he is going to be up against. Take away this violation and the people who front the money for the red-light camera's probably wouldn't put up another dime, because it wouldn't be worth their investment.
That's right, it only became popular to install red-light cameras after someone realized there was a buck to be made off people who made rolling stops on red.
Imagine all the opposition from governments that could lose money if violations for making rolling stops on red were relaxed. Lawmakers and the police who are opposed to relaxing this violation can always claim it's in the interest of public safety. Well this type of offense stinks of gotcha endorsement where one party claims, “I thought I made a complete stop,” but then, they have you on camera and can say that it was almost a complete stop but just not all the way a stop. So it's cough up a hundred bucks, buddy. To some people this could be a day's wages. But remember, were doing this all in the name of safer roads. Gotcha!
