Hersey falls short in Pekin opener

In a game that was balanced by most statistical measures, Pekin had a decisive edge in 3-point shooting as the Dragons claimed a 51-44 victory over Hersey during first-round play of the Pekin Holiday Classic on Monday.

Hersey was 1-for-10 from beyond the arc, while Pekin converted 9 of 27 3-pointers.

The Huskies held a 23-14 lead at the half but were outscored 17-6 in the third quarter and 20-15 in the fourth.

Connor Miklasz scored a team-high 16 points and hit a halfcourt shot at the buzzer to give Hersey its 9-point halftime lead.

Zac Hansen made 5 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 17 points for Pekin, and Tom Lohman had 15 points.

Sean Reszotko and Joe Mailoux both had 8 points for Hersey (5-5).

The Huskies face Normal West, a 66-40 loser to Rockford Boylan on Monday, at 12:45 p.m. in today's second-round play.
