Weekly prayers for new House speaker

I almost shed tears of joy when I learned that John Boehner is about to become the next Speaker of the United States House of Representatives. I became even more impressed with him after reading the article about him in Time magazine and watching him on “60 Minutes.”

His journey from a humble background to the third highest position in our federal government exemplifies the American dream. He doesn't ever need to apologize for being emotional about subjects for which he feels deeply.

One suggestion: Because he will do a lot of talking to the American public, the Speaker-to-be might try to refrain from using some of the language he probably learned while working in his family's tavern. It might not be well-received by the House members when he presides over the chamber or when he speaks to the media. I don't recall Denny Hastert or Nancy Pelosi ever using that fowl expression when being interviewed.

I will be adding Mr. Boehner's name to my list of government officials for whom I pray weekly.
