Gays do not corrupt others

I cannot recall ever becoming more angry than when I read Robert Graham's letter in the Dec. 16 Fence Post concerning the proposed repeal of the “don't ask, don't tell” policy governing gays serving in our military forces.

He stated in no uncertain terms that “This is not the time, when we are fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, to corrupt our military with homosexuals.”

What does he mean by declaring that gays would “corrupt” our military?

Now I am as straight as they come, but for my estate planning purposes, I use the services of a brilliant lawyer in Chicago who happens to be gay.

Does this mean that my lawyer has corrupted my estate plan?

Some years ago, the Chairman of the Milton Township Democratic Party was a gentleman who did an excellent job, and we all thought very well of him. He was gay. Does this mean that he corrupted the Milton Township Democratic Party?

And as so many of us can say, we all have a number of friends who are gay or lesbian. Does this mean that we as human beings have become corrupted as a result of having these gay and lesbian friends?

I would ask Robert Graham to become a more tolerant and open-minded gentleman, and I do believe he should cease declaring that homosexuals are people who corrupt others.
