Schaumburg apartment destroyed by fire
Residents of a Schaumburg apartment have been displaced temporarily following a Wednesday morning fire.
The blaze broke out around 10:40 a.m. in a third-floor unit within a residential complex on the 1200 block of Valley Lake Drive, Schaumburg Battalion Chief Mike Diaferia said.
Investigators have yet to determine the cause, but said a bedroom mattress caught fire and destroyed everything in the room. No other apartment units sustained damage.
Crews searched the stairwells and about 40 adjacent units within the six-story building. They had to assist a couple residents to safety, but no one was injured.
The fire was brought under control in about 15 minutes, Diaferia said. A damage estimate was unknown.
