Abstinence only message won't work

It has become a great concern in the local area that surrounds the District 300 schools that the current procedures of the sexual education curriculum are failing. Too many students each year are having abortions, becoming pregnant and having children.

The current sexual education system in District 300 schools needs to be altered. Sexual education systems should be focused on the tools and the knowledge to have safe and well-educated intercourse. The administration would be naive to say that teaching abstinence only will promote safe sex.

The current goal of the system is to educate students solely on the standpoint of abstinence. The statement regarding abstinence only is unrealistic. The District 300 schools should also have educators that are willing to teach this subject.

Administrative officials shouldn't just have unwilling physical education instructors teaching the subject matter of sexual education. When this happens, the curriculum is altered, not put forth to the students in a positive manner, and lacks information. Teachers of this controversial subject should want to teach sexual education, and should be passionate about educating our students on important aspects of safe sexual activities.

If the District 300 school system is willing to change their current sexual education system, the graduating class average would be higher, there would be less pregnancies and abortions, and there would be teachers that students would feel comfortable talking to about a confusing subject. Overall, a better-rounded education in this subject would lead to better rounded, safer students.
