Prospect High School student paper an awards finalist

For the first time since the 2005-06 school year, Prospect High School's student newspaper, the Prospector, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Crown Awards, presented annually by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) in New York City.

A total of 1,434 student newspapers, magazines and yearbooks published during the 2009-2010 academic year were eligible for judging in the 2011 Crown Awards Program. This national honor places the Prospector among the top 42 high school newspapers in the nation. Only one other Illinois high school made the finalist list. By receiving finalist status, the Prospector is guaranteed either a Gold or Silver Crown award, with the winners announced in March at Columbia University during the CSPA's 87th annual convention. Jason Block is adviser for the Prospector. The CSPA is an international student press association uniting student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges and award programs.
