Elburn man wanted in St. Charles home invasion, attempted murder

A 29-year-old Elburn man is wanted in connection with a home invasion and attempted murder in St. Charles over the weekend.

Mario M. Bocanegra Jr., of the 2N600 block of Beith Road, was charged Sunday in connection with an attack in the 0-99 block of North 13th Avenue that occurred Friday.

Bocanegra is accused of forcing his way into a home and threatening to kill a woman there, court documents state. Bocanegra is accused of throwing the woman — who he knows — to the ground, injuring her head.

The most serious charges of attempted murder and home invasion carry a sentence of six to 30 years in prison, with probation not being an option.

St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain said authorities responded to a domestic call at the address, but he declined to provide more details.

“It's under investigation,” he said.

Bocanegra was arrested on July 25, 2009, for felony theft and damage to a laptop computer, court records show. He pleaded guilty Aug. 17, 2009, was fined $3,180, given credit for 22 days in jail and two years probation, along with 50 hours of community service and anger management counseling.

Bocanegra also was ordered to have no contact with two men and one woman — the same woman who police say is the victim of Friday's home invasion.

In July 2010, prosecutors pushed to revoke his probation after he failed a March 23 drug test and later admitted to smoking pot.

He was sentenced to six more days in jail in September 2010, records show.
