Big donation of coats and mittens

More than 50 students at Vernon Hills-based Hawthorn Elementary District 73 schools have warm coats and mittens courtesy of an anonymous donation.

After being tipped by Elementary South teacher Rachel Sapozhnikov to the need in the schools, the donor purchased approximately $1,000 in winter gear, including 55 coats and 32 pairs of mittens, which were delivered to the school on Monday, Dec. 20.

By the end of the day, students at Elementary South, Elementary North and the Aspen Hawthorn Early Learning Program had new cold weather gear for winter.
