Hendry makes most of chance at wing

DENVER — Not only did the makeshift fourth line that featured defensemen Jordan Hendry and John Scott playing wings contribute to the Blackhawks getting a point at San Jose, it got the only goal in a 2-1 loss in overtime.

Jordan Hendry scored in the first period in his first time back in the lineup in 14 games.

Hendry played only eight minutes but was active and had 3 shots on goal.

“It would have been a lot better with a victory, but you'll take a goal anytime you can get it,” Hendry said. “I hadn't scored 2 goals in a game in a long time and I thought that maybe if it rained it could pour.”

Hendry embraced the move to wing since it meant him getting the chance to play again for the first time since Nov. 7.

“It's been awhile since I played so I just wanted to get out there and create some room for my linemates and bring some speed and energy to the fourth line and I think we did a pretty good job,” Hendry said.

“It's a little different, but I just go out there and play loose and pay attention in the video sessions and pick the other guys' brains. I was playing right wing so I just watched the other right wingers and kind of mimicked them and trusted my instincts as a player.”

Scott and Jake Dowell assisted on Hendry's first goal since April.

“I thought that line was effective in a lot of ways,” coach Joel Quenneville said. “I thought (Hendry) looked comfortable there up front and did a lot of good things.”
