Oh, yes, it can happen here

Americans reading about the sovereign debt problems in Europe should not assume that it can't happen here. We have been in a borrow-and-spend mode, both individually and across all levels of government, for decades now.

Those debt chickens are going to come home to roost. Think how shaming it would be for the United States to have to look to the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund for a bailout on their terms.
