Discarded decorations get new life in Wood Dale
Deck your halls with re-purposed boughs of holly from the Holiday on the Farm festivities today in Wood Dale.
The 38th annual celebration includes a bake sale and silent auction, as well as a white-elephant sale of donated holiday decorations and goods.
“It's just gotten better and better every year,” said Anna Morong of Wood Dale, a historical society member. “So we have a big showing. There's always something for someone.”
The event at Yesterday's Farm includes refreshments and entertainment.
Christmas carols will be heard throughout the event in addition to music played on the piano, accordion, dulcimer and autoharp.
The white elephant sale is similar to an upscale garage sale of holiday items people have donated throughout the year.
“They're good items, beautiful items worth more than a dollar or two,” Morong said. “It's nice, good Christmas items that people don't want anymore, but they're not broken or discolored or anything like that.”
Holiday on the Farm runs 4 to 9 p.m. today at Yesterday's Farm Museum, 850 N. Wood Dale Road, Wood Dale.
“It's a fun thing,” Morong said.
Parking is available across the street in the park district lot. Handicapped parking is in the Wood Dale Historical Society lot.
Admission is free, while items are available for purchase.
