Barrington High School senior appointed to state education council
Congratulations to Barrington High School senior Maryann Thompson, who's been appointed to the Illinois State Board of Education Student Advisory Council.
Thompson is one of only 15 students representing their respective areas of the state on the council.
The Barrington Unit District 220 board of education honored Thompson for her appointment at its meeting this week.
Thompson explained how she'd learned of the application process earlier this year and was inspired by the opportunity to shape public policy based on the observations and insight of herself and her classmates.
Thompson laughed at the suggestion that the appointment could be a training ground for a political career, saying her primary interest was in being a voice for her community today.
She will serve on the council through her graduation next June.
