Burish ready to chirp vs. old teammates
Adam Burish, whose agitating ways on the ice endeared himself to Blackhawks fans during his time here, is looking forward to mixing it up with some of his former teammates Wednesday night at the United Center in his first game against them as a member of the Dallas Stars.
“Sharpie, I can't wait to go against him,” Burish joked after the Stars worked out Tuesday at the UC. “I was looking forward to playing Kaner. I told him he's got the Burish flu and that he was a little scared.
“All the guys, Seabrook; I told Dunc I'm going to chase him down in the corner and give him the business a little bit. I'm sure I won't shut up the whole game.”
Burish was the mouth that roared in the Hawks' dressing room and on the ice.
“I wouldn't be surprised if he wants to have a little bit of a scrap just to show the fans here that he still likes it here and wants to entertain them,” Hawks winger Troy Brouwer said. “It's Burish, and he's always got something to say. I'm sure there will be a couple funny remarks.”
Burish said he misses Chicago and found it strange walking into the UC on Tuesday as a member of the opposition.
“When I walked into the building today it was weird just coming to a different locker room and driving to the rink,” Burish said. “Just seeing the guys this morning was funny. I had to catch myself; they were having a team meeting and I just went and sat in the middle of it. Guys said, ‘Why don't you just stay for the meeting? You want to shower with us, too?'
“I think it's going to be fun. I'm sure I'll skate by their bench and crack a few jokes. It won't be a teary-eyed thing.”
Burish planned to have dinner with six or seven of his former teammates Tuesday night.
“Do I miss it here? Yeah, I miss it a ton,” he said. “I miss those guys and I miss the fans here at the United Center, but I'm in a good place now. I've been really, really happy.”
Burish is playing almost 15 minutes a night with the Stars on their checking line with Steve Ott and Brandon Segal, which is about double the ice time he got with the Hawks.
“I've enjoyed the responsibility they've given me,” Burish said. “I've played against a lot of teams' top lines and I love the role they've given me.”
