Attempted robbery outside Mt. Prospect bank
Mount Prospect police are investigating an attempted robbery outside of Chase Bank on East Euclid Avenue early Monday evening.
Mark Bechtold, the police public information officer, said a man was using an ATM inside the bank lobby at about 5:55 p.m. when another man came up behind him as he was preparing to withdraw cash.
After the withdrawal, the victim went into the bank to conduct business.
When he walked back outside, however, he saw a white BMW SUV parked outside in a fire lane near the front doors, Bechtold said. As the customer walked outside, a man stepped out of the SUV and confronted him, asking for the money he had taken out of the ATM.
The customer backed away and threatened to call police. The offender climbed back into the SUV, put the truck in gear and lurched forward.
The victim managed to roll out of the way before being hit, Bechtold said. The SUV sped away from the parking area and the victim lost sight of the truck around Randhurst.
The victim told police he did not see any weapon, and that he did not lose any money.
The offender is described as white, 40-50 years old, about 5-feet, 8-inches tall and 170 pounds. He has short brown but graying hair and brown eyes, Bechtold said, and was wearing a black waist length coat and dark pants.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to contact the Mount Prospect Police Department at (847) 870-5656.
