Flatbread crackers cheaper to make

Desperation Dinners

We just love crispy flatbread “crackers,” but they're so darned expensive to buy. This is basically nothing more than flour and water cheap ingredients, to say the least. Well, guess what? We have a terrific recipe for homemade crackers that's not at all difficult to make.

The highly regarded Angus Barn restaurant in Raleigh, N.C., inspired our Flatbread Crackers, a recipe that Alicia was able to get more than a decade ago. While yummy plain, these crackers make Christmas-worthy gifts when dusted with a bit of sea salt, garlic flakes or grated Parmesan cheese. (Although we've included some combinations with this recipe, the possibilities are open to your creative genius, and we would love to hear what you do with them. Just e-mail us at tellus@KitchenScoop.com or visit our website, KitchenScoop.com.)

If you're planning on any holiday entertaining, be sure to make a batch of Flatbread Crackers. They pair perfectly with dips and cheeses, and your guests will be decidedly impressed.

But best of all? It's like you're cheating making something that sells for way too much but only costs pennies to make at home.
