All must be on board to fight bullying

A task force of 30 educators, community leaders and law enforcement officials has been formed by DuPage Regional Superintendent of Schools Darlene Ruscitti and DuPage State's Attorney Joe Birkett. They have defined bullying as an “imbalance of power” that is “purposeful and repeated” and creates “reasonable fear” of harm to the person being bullied.

A “tool kit” for each school district is being prepared for release in February by this task force, which targets bullies for possible expulsion and criminal charges, along with recommending discipline for those who stand mute.

It's my assumption that accountability will be required of all county school districts as these tools are incorporated into school policy and that we, the public, are kept informed.

Many, many thanks to Ms. Ruscitti and Mr. Birkett and all those who are participating in relevant action to end this deadly epidemic.
