Two Wood Dale residents killed in Indiana crash
Two people from Wood Dale who were traveling on Interstate 65 through northwest Indiana died in a crash with a semitrailer early Friday, authorities said.
The victims were traveling south in their 2004 Chevrolet when they left the road, headed down into the grassy median, came back up on the other side and turned to face north, police said.
John Miroballi, 68, the vehicle's driver, and Jeannie S. Miroballi, 46, were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the accident at 5:33 a.m. near Demotte, Ind., about 30 miles south of Gary, according to a news release from the Indiana State Police.
The truck driver, Michael Ward, 47, of Winnipeg, Manitoba, told police another truck ahead of him had quickly shifted from the left to right lane, and back again, before Ward's truck struck the Chevrolet in the right lane.
The truck, pulling a flatbed trailer with building equipment, ended up in the grassy median with the Chevrolet, police said.
Ward was not injured.
Lanes in both directions were reopened by 8 a.m.
