Objection filed in Wheaton council race
An objection has been filed against the candidacy of a man running for Wheaton City Council.
Former business owner Scott MacKay, one of six people vying for two at-large seats, owes about $11,000 in back property taxes and late fees, according to the objection filed by Wheaton resident Kristen Seely.
Illinois law prohibits anyone in arrears in making tax payments to a municipality from seeking elected office in that municipality, the complaint says.
Court records show MacKay has not paid either installment of his 2009 property taxes, including one that was due June 1 and another that was due Sept. 1.
