NIU murder suspect to submit DNA sample

The man accused of killing Neuqua Valley High School graduate Antinette “Toni” Keller will give a DNA sample to prosecutors, according to a published report.

The DeKalb Daily Chronicle reported Tuesday that William “Billy” Curl, 34, appeared in court and his lawyer, DeKalb County Public Defender Regina Harris, approved the prosecution's Nov. 19 motion to have him submit samples.

In the one-page motion, prosecutors say Curl provided details of Keller's death in a police interview and told police where he threw away the shoes he was wearing that night, the newspaper said.

Prosecutors want a DNA sample to determine if shoes found at the DeKalb County Landfill belong to Curl.

On Nov. 1, Curl was charged with five counts of first-degree murder, one of arson and one of criminal sexual assault in the death of the Northern Illinois University student. Charred remains found in Prairie Park on Oct. 16 are believed to belong to the 18-year-old from Plainfield but police have not been able to confirm that yet.

She was last seen walking toward the park Oct. 14. Curl next appears in court Dec. 9 and is being held on $5 million bail.
