Vick sick about loss to Bears
That first-quarter spin move on Bears safety Chris Harris was sick, Michael Vick.
So was that fourth-quarter, 30-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brent Celek that whistled past the ear hole of Brian Urlacher's helmet, with Harris and D.J. Moore also converging.
For the fourth time in his career, Vick threw for more than 300 yards in a game. The Bears sacked him four times, but Philadelphia's dynamic quarterback never took a vicious hit.
Vick didn't have a nick.
“After this game, I felt better than I have the last three,” Vick said. “Body-wise, I feel good.”
Emotionally, Vick was sick.
Never mind his 333 passing yards, 2 TD throws and 94.2 passer efficiency rating.
The Eagles' three-game winning streak was history.
“I hate to lose,” Vick said after the Eagles' rally fell short in a 31-26 loss at Soldier Field. “It makes me sick. It makes me ill. But you're not going to win every game, and I know that we're definitely going to win more than we lose.”
Vick came into the Eagles' game against the Bears having not thrown an interception in 191 pass attempts this season. After his first 20 throws Sunday, he still hadn't been picked.
“Vick is tough,” Urlacher said. “He's throwing the ball really well this year.”
Philadelphia trailed 14-13 late in the first half when Vick dropped back to throw on second-and-goal from the Bears' 4. Tommie Harris deflected Vick's throw, which wobbled into the hands of Chris Harris. Harris raced 39 yards the other way with the interception.
Six plays, and 1 minute and 12 seconds later, Bears quarterback Jay Cutler tossed a 6-yard TD pass to Earl Bennett.
“Big, big play,” Bears defensive end Julius Peppers said of the Harris pick. “Turning point of the game, in my opinion.”
“That interception was just deflating,” Vick said.
Add “sick.”
“You can't have a team of that caliber with their back to the wall and have an interception take place ... mis-protect and so on,” Eagles coach Andy Reid said. “You can't do that and expect to come out on top.”
The Eagles were never the same, falling behind 31-13 before the end of the third quarter. They got 2 short field goals from David Akers and the Vick-to-Celek TD pass in the fourth.
“We just beat ourselves,” Vick said. “I think if we go back and watch the film, we'll see so many opportunities that we had that we didn't capitalize on.”
Vick also rushed for 44 yards, averaging nearly 5 per attempt, but was limited to a long of 11 yards.
“We all can do better,” Reid said. “He's part of that.”
