Fire razes Addison home

Firefighters needed to knock down part of an Addison home Sunday morning to bring a raging fire under control.

The first crews arrived at the home on the 100 block of North Oakleaf Drive just after 10 a.m. and found thick smoke pouring out of the attic. Firefighters were forced to pull out of the house as the fire grew, according to the Addison Fire Department.

A large amount of storage in the house ignited, forcing firefighters to turn to a defensive attack. A tractor was brought in to knock down part of the house so crews could reach the burning storage.

It took firefighters about two hours to bring the blaze under control, but the house was a total loss, according to the department.

The Addison Fire Department was assisted by the Wood Dale, Bensenville, Elmhurst, Bloomingdale, Itasca, York Center and Lombard fire departments.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but the damage was estimated about $350,000.
