You must be frightened, or else

We are all treated to the new American panic, thanks to the cable networks and their time-filling efforts. I don't know the percentage involved but relatively few people fly. However, you would think the road to grandma's house has a roadblock in front of it. The electronic and grope mentality of our government is over the top but the reaction is higher.

Thanks to the 9/11 failure the country has been subjected to ever increasing personal intrusions all in the name of security. Thy name is Patriot Act.

As the Daily Herald editorial states, what is needed is a logical application of security measures. If only this could be done. The cable jabberers won't stand for it. You must be frightened or else. There, too, was talk about intercepting baby scanners. It just goes on and on. Don't forget the Hollaway girl.

The “security experts” are now touting a preapproved flier id for a price. It may be worth it to high mileage fliers. But it reminds me of the really bad 1940 war propaganda films from Hollywood. The Nazis come down the aisle shouting, “Your papers. Have your papers ready.” And the greatest democracy in the world puts up with it.
