Yoga, veggie cooking part of wellness event

Visitors to the Wyndham Hotel in Lisle on Saturday might have noticed a particularly healthy vibe in the air.

That's because it was the site of Science of Spirituality's “Weekend of Spiritual Wellness” event, a weekend-long exploration of different ways people can improve their lives, from vegetarian cooking to meditation.

Science of Spirituality is an international not-for-profit, nondenominational organization that advocates healthy living. The group has an office in Naperville.

“We try to touch on the topic of wellness at all levels,” said Mike Ribet, one of the event's organizers. “We don't want to reach just one group of people. Some might be interested in vegetarian diets, for example. Others might thinking of getting into yoga. There's something here for just about anyone interested in the subject of wellness.”

The event continues Sunday at the hotel, which is located at 3000 Warrenville Road. Presentations on meditation and healthy cooking are on the schedule, as is the keynote address by Science of Spirituality leader Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj.

Samantha Patel of Oak Brook said she and her husband attended to learn more about the value of meditation.

“It's something we've thought about in the past, but never did,” she said. “Things are so fast and stressful in the world now, and we're looking for ways to counteract that.”

Ribet encouraged families to come to the event on Sunday, as there are activities planned specifically for children ages 5 to 12. All events are free.

The Weekend of Spiritual Wellness is one of several wellness-related events Science of Spirituality holds during the year. In August, the group hosted the fifth annual Veggie Fest in Naperville.
