Chicago auctioning Blackhawks banners for charity

Looking to hang one of the banners that graced Chicago street poles lauding the Chicago Blackhawks championship or the 50th anniversary of The Second City?

The city of Chicago plans to auction 20 banners online starting this morning.

The Mayor's Office of Special Events says the auction will close at staggered times through Dec. 3. Money from the auction will go to the Sharing It Program, which provides job training.

Donations also will go to hunger relief charities and to buy holiday gifts for needy Chicago children.

The banners available for auction include the White Sox World Series, Walter Payton, Chicago Country Music Festival and the Chicago Marathon. There also will be banners for Chicago Blackhawks player Patrick Kane and Marian Hossa.
