Romeoville man charged with soliciting teen

Investigators from Naperville's High-tech Crimes Unit have assisted in the arrest of a Romeoville man accused of attempting to arrange an encounter with what he thought was a 14-year-old girl.

Undercover Naperville and Geneva officers posed as the girl while having several sexually explicit online conversations over the course of several months with Juan Duran of 538 N. Frieh.

Duran, police said, ultimately attempted to meet the teen for sex at an undisclosed location, leading officers to execute a search warrant Tuesday morning at Duran's home.

“Evidence was recovered that supported the investigation and ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect,” said Naperville Sgt. Gregg Bell.

Duran is in custody and awaiting a bond hearing on felony charges of indecent solicitation of a child and “grooming,” or attempting to improperly befriend, a minor at the Will County Adult Detention Center in Joliet.

In the wake of the arrest, police are asking that parents closely monitor their children's computer and cell phone communication. They believe there are other young girls, yet to be identified, that may have been victimized by the suspect.

He communicated with the girls under the name of crazyboy549@yahoo.com. Parents who believe their child may have been victimized are asked to call police at (630) 305-5384.
