St. Charles North, Geneva win

A big second quarter helped the St. Charles North girls basketball team bounce back from Saturday's season-opening loss and defeat Lakes 62-44 Tuesday at the Geneva Thanksgiving tournament.

The North Stars (1-1) outscored Lakes 18-4 in the second quarter. The other three quarters were all within 2 points.

Senior Sydney Russell led the North Stars with 15 points including a pair of 3-pointers and 5-of-6 free-throw shooting. Her sister Taylor Russell also hit 5 of 6 at the as part of her 9 points.

Tess Fischer added 12 points for the North Stars, who hit 17 of 23 at the line and return to action Friday against Rosary.

Geneva 49, Providence 37: Kat Yelle scored 14 points, Ashley Santos had 13, Sammy Scofield 8 and Katelyn Allen 7 in Geneva's second straight win to start the season.

The Vikings (2-0) led 9-8 after one quarter and 25-22 at halftime before opening up the margin in the third quarter.

Antioch 50, Rosary 32: The Royals (1-2) got off to a slow start and never recovered Tuesday at the Geneva Thanksgiving tournament.

Antioch led 15-3 after one quarter and 30-9 at halftime. Brenda Rocha led the Royals with 8 points and Brittney Hutchinson scored 6.

Kaneland 69, Luther North 31: The Knights (3-2) jumped to leads of 20-3 after one quarter and 37-16 at halftime on their way to the easy win Tuesday at the Immaculate Conception Tournament.

Nicki Ott, Kelly Evers and Tess Alderman led the balanced attack with 12 points each. Alderman grabbed 7 rebounds and Emma Bradford and Evers both pulled down 6. McKinzie Mangers led in assists with 4 and tied Emily Heimerdinger for the team lead with 3 steals.
