Note found at scene of double murder-suicide

A suicide note said to be written by Mark Chapman admitting he took the lives of a 6-year-old girl and a 50-year-old woman was found at the scene of a double murder-suicide in Westmont Friday, police said late Saturday.

Linda Brennan, 50, and her granddaughter Julia Moore, 6, were found dead with multiple gunshot wounds to the head on the 500 block of West 61st Street, the DuPage County coroner's office said. Chapman, 50, was found dead with what appears to be a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said. Police said an ongoing custody dispute may have a been a contributing factor to the probable murder-suicide.

Officers responding to a request for a well-being check from a relative Friday found Brennan and Chapman on a living room sofa and Moore on her bed in her bedroom, police said.

There were no signs of a struggle or of forced entry into the apartment, police said, and a gun was found at the scene.
