Scouting St. Francis girls basketball

Last year: 10-19, 1-9 in the Suburban Christian Conference Blue; lost to Montini 74-28 in Class 3A Montini regional final.

Top players: Dana DuBois, sr., F; Fiona McMahon, sr., C; Kelly McShea, sr., F; Lauren Pisarski, sr., G; Kelly Reinke, sr., G; Kate Slattery, so., G.

Scouting report: The Spartans took it on the chin last season. This group has a puncher's shot to reverse its record. Six-foot center McMahon and point guard Reinke are a nice 1-2 punch. Reinke returns to the court after missing her junior year with a torn ACL. She looked healthy setting for St. Francis' volleyball team this fall. Reinke could help open things up for McMahon, who averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds as a junior. The Spartans have a pair of sharpshooters in McShea and Slattery. It is the other end of the floor that ultimately could make or break this group. "The key for us is how we can stop teams," Gerdeman said. "Without a whole lot of size we have to be able to rebound and pressure teams."
