Scouting Schaumburg girls basketball

Schaumburg

Coach: Ashley Berggren (second season)

Last year's record: 6-23, 3-7

Returning players: Alexis Carravetta (5-5 Sr. G), Jennifer Pomagier (5-8 Sr. G), Rachel Steuhm (5-9 Sr. G), Alyssa Saklak (5-10 Jr. G-F), Kelly Skorczewski (5-11 Jr. F-C)

Newcomers: Carly Broussard (5-10 So. F-C), Amanda Kelly (5-5 So. G), Hannah Kerr (5-9 So. G), Samantha Mellert (5-8 Jr. G), Sarah May (5-10 Jr. F-C), Marisa Christy (5-6 Jr. G-F), Aubrey Lopshire (5-6 Jr. G), Jenna Gerber (5-11 Jr. F-C)

Outlook: Seniors Carrevetta, Pomagier and Stuehm return to lead the Saxons in Berggren's second season as the head coach. Pomagier scored 10 points against Barrington late last season while Stuehm (11 points) and Carravetta (9) had the top scoring games against West Aurora midway through the season. Berggren, a former Barrington and University of Illinois basketball standout, feels she has a strong group of returning players who "play with intensity and work well together." The Saxons graduated all-area point guard Taylor Kosla. Saklak, a member of the Saxons MSL West volleyball champions, will lead the offensive charge. Saklak was an all-area honorable mention selection, produced multiple double-digit scoring games, including a season-high 20 points in a double-overtime win over Conant. Newcomers Kelly and Gerber are expected to contribute quality minutes.
