Scouting Wheaton Academy boys basketball

Wheaton Academy

Coach: Paul Ferguson (fourth year, 70-36).

Last year: 24-3, 12-0, first in the Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division; lost 48-45 to St. Francis in the 3A Wheaton Academy regional semifinals.

Top players: Tate Fritz, sr., F; Luke Johnson, sr., F; Wes Koral, sr., G; Jeremy Lenich, sr., G; Lars Olson, jr., G; Larry Reynolds, jr., F; Drew Sandberg, jr., G; Luke Thorson, sr., F.

Scouting report: Graduated superstar Tim Rusthoven is now at William & Mary but the Warriors are still the pick in the SCC Gold. They've got depth, height and all the pieces -- 6-9 college prospect Johnson, 6-6 defender/slasher Thorson, perimeter shooters Fritz, Olson and Lenich, athletic 6-4 East Aurora transfer Reynolds and another transfer, 6-3 guard Koral out of Joliet Catholic, pushing tempo and extending the defense. Rusthoven and graduated 3-year point guard Quinn Gorski offered stability and humble leadership, and that's hard to replicate. Athleticism and height will suffice till it gels for a squad that had a good summer. "I think the question will be, can we be as consistent as we were last year?" Ferguson said.
