Possible murder-suicide in Bloomingdale, police say
A mother and her son were found dead in their Bloomingdale townhouse Monday, with police investigating it as a possible murder-suicide.
It would be the second violent domestic crime to hit Bloomingdale this month.
Police Chief Frank Giammarese confirmed William Schultz, 57, and his mother Marjorie Schultz, 88, were found dead at their home on the 100 block of Springbrook Drive. A family member called police just after noon Monday. The home sits just behind the Springbrook shopping center.
Giammarese said it appears the pair may have swallowed substances that led to their deaths, adding there were “no obvious signs of violence.”
But he added officials cannot make an accurate ruling on the cause of death until autopsies and toxicology reports are completed by the DuPage County coroner.
The coroner said the autopsy should be complete Tuesday.
No one else was in the home, and Giammarese said police are not currently seeking any outside suspects.
Several neighbors, who declined to be named, said William Schultz lived with his mother and acted as her caregiver. She struggled with health problems that might have included a stroke, neighbors said.
The pair lived in the “quiet neighborhood” for at least a decade, neighbors added.
Bloomingdale, a village of 22,000 known for its shopping and golf course, was the site of what authorities called a murder-attempted suicide earlier this month. A mother was charged in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, who was found with her throat slashed.
