Get all the facts on abortion, breast cancer

As a pro-life supporter, I believe all women are given free will to make whatever decision they want. They should, however, make informed decisions. A recent Fence Post letter by Nancy Dukewich, R.N., refuted the potential link between the increased risk of breast cancer and abortions. However, several articles and informational booklets are readily available online for women to read and discern for themselves the potential risks and the abortion-breast cancer link.

The Breast Cancer Prevention Institute www.bcpinstitute.org [ has a booklet that can be ordered or viewed online. It is co-authored by noted breast cancer oncologist Dr. Angela Lanfranchi and cancer research endocrinologist Dr. Joel Brind. It is called “Breast Cancer Risks and Prevention 4th Edition.” It is available by clicking the Resources tab on the website home page.

Dr. Brind also published a peer-reviewed article in the Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons (Vol. 10, No 4, Winter 2005), which detailed the serious methodological weaknesses and flaws of the types of studies Ms. Dukewich refers to as her source for invalidating the abortion-breast cancer link. Based on the research conducted by Dr. Brind and others, there is a very plausible link between incidences of breast cancer and pregnancies terminated by abortion.

As recently as June 24, an article appeared in the Daily Mail, a London newspaper, detailing both points of view. The article is available on the Internet at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1288955/Abortion-triple-risk-breast-cancer. html? ITO=1490.

I would hope all women would do their own research on such a personal issue as breast cancer and discuss the matter with their physician before proceeding with such a life-altering procedure as an abortion.
