Lesbian Benedictine educator loses job
A lesbian educator has left her position at Benedictine University after a wedding announcement for her and her partner ran in the local newspaper.
Laine Tadlock says she was fired from Lisle college after the announcement ran in The (Springfield) State Journal-Register this summer.
But Benedictine officials say they offered Tadlock a new position and she declined.
A statement says officials decided "it would not be consistent with the university's mission as a Catholic institution" for Tadlock to continue as director of their education program.
University President William Carroll says Tadlock was offered reassignment because the wedding announcement mentioned that she worked at Benedictine.
Tadlock and her partner married in Iowa in June.
