D214 musicians perform in Honors Orchestra Concert

Northwest Suburban High School District 214's Honors Orchestra takes the stage with director Elizabeth Magill 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, in Buffalo Grove High School's theater.

Joining Magill is Scott Casagrande from Hersey High School, who serves as the wind and percussion sectional coach for the orchestra. Together, they work with these talented students once a week to create music by some of the greatest classical composers.

The talented students are selected by rigorous audition from the competitive field of musicians in music programs at the six schools in District 214. They devote Monday evenings to lengthy rehearsals.

The audience will be treated to the Academic Festival Overture by Johannes Brahms and Symphony No. 8 by Antonin Dvorak, one of his most melodic and loved symphonies.

There is no admission charge, though a free-will donation will be accepted at the door to benefit the Annual Honors Orchestra Scholarship, awarded to one senior member of the orchestra who plans to continue on in music at the college level.
