Wheaton police probe multiple burglaries

Wheaton police are reminding residents to lock their doors following a recent rash of burglaries in the city.

Police said burglars struck a dozen cars, four offices and a residential garage during the final week of October.

The car burglaries happened after dark in different parts of the city, including the 400-1200 blocks of Brighton Drive, the 2200 block of Embden Lane, the 1900 block of Hampton Drive and the 1600 block of Valley Forge Court.

Eleven of the 12 vehicles were unlocked, police said. Items stolen include GPS devices, cellular phones, computer equipment, a purse and cash.

Authorities said burglars used force to gain entry to the four offices on the 400 block of East Roosevelt Road. The burglaries happened during the early morning hours and items taken include computers and cash.

A white male suspect entered the garage on the 1400 block of Darwin Court. Nothing was taken. No additional description of the suspect is available, police said.

Authorities are advising residents to call 911 if they observe anything or anyone suspicious in their neighborhood. Anyone with information about the burglaries should call Cmdr. James Volpe at (630) 260-2055.
