Headstones toppled in McHenry cemeteries
Police in McHenry says someone has knocked over from 50 to 60 headstones in two cemeteries there.
McHenry Deputy Chief Robert Lumber says the department has no suspects yet, but is continuing to investigate and collect evidence.
Lumber says the desecration Sunday night was limited to the Woodland and St. Mary's cemeteries, and did not affect other local graveyards.
He says some of the gravestones were pushed off of their foundations and can be restored to their original conditions, while some were broken.
The (Crystal Lake) Northwest Herald reports that some of the headstones that were knocked over dated back to the 1800s.
