Naperville North graduate's body recovered

BUENA VISTA, Colo. — The body of a Naperville North graduate has been found more than three months after she was thrown from a raft on the Arkansas River.

The Summit Daily in Frisco reported that the body of 23-year-old rafting guide Kimberly Appelson, who grew up in Lisle, was found Wednesday in an underwater cavern in the river near Salida. Divers from the Colorado Springs Fire Department entered the cavern at Frog Rock rapid. The water's temperature was 35 degrees.

Appelson was off-duty when she was thrown from the raft at the rapid. In August, the flow of the river was slowed above Salida in hopes of finding her body.
