AG race full of vague promises
I applaud what Attorney General Lisa Madigan has done thus far and have to say that she surprised me with her independence from her father, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan. To further show her independence she needs to investigate him for the damage he has done the state with the legislative issues that he has blocked from even coming to the floor of the General Assembly for a vote.
Republican Steve Kim states that if he is elected and he will form a unit to investigate public corruption by officeholders across the state. He needs to tell us where he will get the funds to support this very large group. I am not sure why Kim wants to eliminate regulatory red tape only for small business. The fact that large companies can hire lawyers to handle this red tape does not make it right for any size business.
Libertarian Bill Malan's comments about eliminating all government jobs and spending related to prosecuting the war on drugs is just plain laughable. I am not sure how many people that amounts to in Springfield, but there are a lot of police and prosecuting attorneys who spend their time doing this and other things in their line of duty. Would they all be fired?
When the Green Party's David Black says he wants to reduce the influence of money on politics. The attorney general will not be able to outlaw PACs, the first step in achieving his goal. I hope that his statement was shortened or jumbled when being transcribed because it reads like a promise to do everything for everybody without having to state what he will do for anybody.
