Two firefighters injured in Lisle blaze
Two firefighters hospitalized overnight after a fire in Lisle were expected to be released late Wednesday, authorities said.
Bureau Chief Dan Anderson of the Lisle-Woodridge Fire District said things could have been worse after firefighters were called to 4616 Yackley Ave. at 8:13 p.m. Tuesday with reports a ranch home was ablaze.
“It was a nice close call,” he said.
Firefighters immediately attacked the fire, Anderson said, and were removing debris from the home in an attempt to get to the blaze.
Two firefighters removing debris tripped over a live ComEd line that had burned off the rear of the home, Anderson said,
“Both were shocked and immediately went to the ground,” Anderson said. “They were pulled away from the scene by firefighters there.”
He said the two were taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where they were held overnight. Anderson did not release the firefighters' names at their request.
The fire was upgraded to a second alarm, Anderson said, and brought under control in about an hour. Fire and smoke damage left the home uninhabitable.
The homeowner also was treated for smoke inhalation, but was released at the scene.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but the downed power line did not spark the blaze, authorities said.
“The power line was a result of the fire, not the cause of the fire,” Anderson said. “We're happy the firefighters will be OK. Any time you have any kind of an electrical shock like that, it can cause significant cardiac or muscle issues.”
