Burglars trick Wheaton resident before theft

A group of men tricked a Wheaton resident into letting them into the resident's home Sunday before stealing valuables, according to police.

The men knocked on the door inside the garage and asked to borrow boiling water to use for construction work next door, according to police.

The resident of the 600 block of West Lincoln Avenue let the suspects in, and once inside, one suspect kept the resident's attention while the others swiped an undisclosed amount of valuables from inside the home, according to police.

Police said a similar ruse was attempted on Oct. 10 in the 1000 block of Kingston Street when three males asked a resident to borrow hot water, but the resident did not allow them entry to the house.

In that incident, the three suspects left the area in a blue pickup truck, according to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (630) 260-2055.
