Naperville Township waste deal a slam dunk

Here's a ballot question that actually might save the taxpayer some money. Many of the 8,500 residents in unincorporated Naperville Township are on their own to work out the best deal on garbage pickup service.

That's why you might see four trucks from four different companies rumbling down the same street on a given day. This ballot question would give township government the authority to negotiate the best rates with garbage haulers for groups of residents.

They'd be under no obligation to accept, and some unincorporated residents savor their independence. But having this option strikes us as a no-brainer: We recommend a YES vote.
