Senior scam in Schaumburg

Schaumburg police are alerting residents to a scam victimizing senior citizens. The offender, posing as a contractor or plumber, tricks residents into allowing him inside their homes, and then with the help of an accomplice steals jewelry and cash. Four victims have been reported since Sept. 1. Police describe one offender as a white man with a tan complexion, dark hair and standing between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10, with a medium build. Police advise residents to ask for photo identification from utility employees and anyone else wishing to enter a home. Call 911 to report any suspicious sightings.
