Scouting Palatine at Barrington

Palatine (4-4, 2-2) at Barrington (7-1, 3-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Barrington Community Stadium

Last week: Palatine lost to Schaumburg 35-28; Barrington lost to Fremd 26-12

Outlook: The area's oldest rivalry of 81 years has plenty at stake with Palatine trying to make the playoffs for a fourth straight year and Barrington trying to get at least a share of the MSL West title and a home playoff opener. “We've tried to stress we have a lot to play for as well and we want to go into the playoffs on a positive note,” said Barrington coach Joe Sanchez, whose team is looking for its first West title since 2004. Junior RB Chase Murdock (907 yards, 11 TDs) will try to break the 1,000-yard mark for the second straight year as the Broncos look to equal their best regular season since 2003. Palatine got banged up more last week but coach Tyler Donnelly said RB-LB Jim Smearman (709 yards, 11 TDs) will play alongside senior QB Cody Bobbit (1,973 total yards, 20 TDs). “As long as No. 11 (Bobbit) is on the field we've got a chance,” Donnelly said. Palatine's 35-0 win last year was its third straight in a series it trails 38-19-1.
