D214 offers planning night for parents of special needs students
Parents of District 214 students are reminded to attend “DIRECTIONS, the Post-Secondary Planning Night for Students with Special Needs, on Monday, Oct. 25, at Forest View Educational Center, 2121 S. Goebbert Rd. in Arlington Heights.
This evening is dedicated to assisting families as they begin their investigation into the many postsecondary opportunities available to their sons/daughters with special needs. Representatives from various schools and programs will be available
to distribute literature and discuss their programs in detail.
In addition to meeting with representatives, Dr. Kenneth Ender will be presenting a keynote on the importance of family involvement in the transition process. Dr. Michael Frey will be the moderator of a panel of college students, who will be asked to reflect upon their experience with transition. Deb Franzen will convey information related to the selection of services and programs at the postsecondary level.
Attendees will receive a directory which categorizes colleges/universities that offer various levels of support for students with disabilities.
