More patrols needed in school zone
I sent Sheriff Curran a letter by U.S. mail several weeks ago asking to please increase officers monitoring traffic on Grass Lake Road in the school zones of Grass Lake School and Lotus School. Drivers do not follow the school zone speed limits when children are out playing during recess and lunch hours. If you do, (as I do) follow the 20 mph speed limit, people are tailgating you, blowing their horns, or like a gravel truck one time, passing me in the oncoming lanes blowing his air horns!
With Grass Lake Road as hilly and curvy as it is, with double yellow lines the entire way, and a 40 mph speed limit, the county could make a fortune in ticket fees if you would have squad cars out here monitoring the speeders who tailgate and pass in no passing zones. I even had a person pass me on the bridge over Grass Lake! How unsafe is that? I do not want to even think about a child being hit by a car when they run out of the schoolyard chasing a ball, but every time I go past one of these schools and have what happens if you obey the law, it is going to happen some day.
Please protect the future voters of this area by keeping them from being struck by a car speeding in the school zones!
