South Elgin will meet Larkin for title
They have to travel to Rockford to decide it, but either Larkin or South Elgin will win a regional boys soccer championship Saturday night.
Vince Szalay, Brian Irwin and Michael Kozielek each scored goals Wednesday as South Elgin downed DeKalb 3-1 in the semifinals of the Class 3A Rockford Guilford regional.
The Storm (9-6-2) will meet Larkin at 7 p.m. Saturday for the regional title and a spot in next Tuesday's Barrington sectional semifinals. Larkin, the defending regional champion, downed Elgin 3-0 in a semifinal played on Tuesday.
Alberto Bustamante had 2 assists in Wednesday's win for South Elgin, while David Velesquez added one. Jarod Schieler made 7 saves in goal for the Storm.
“We put it all together,” said South Elgin coach John Uvegas. “We had good possessions and we had some fun.”
Bartlett 5, Addison Trail 1: Dan Giera scored 2 goals to help lead Bartlett to a win in the semifinals of the Class 3A St. Charles North regional. The Hawks will take on the host North Stars Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the regional title and a berth in the Schaumburg sectional. Alex Ortiz, Andrew Triantos and Chris Koechle each added goals for the Hawks (12-6-4) on Wednesday and Alex Busch made 5 saves in goal.
“We got scored on in the first minute and a half but we kept battling and got the job done,” said Bartlett coach Ben Beary.Burlington Central 8, IMSA 2: Alejandro Nava scored 3 goals as Burlington Central rolled to an 8-2 win over IMSA in the semifinals of the Class 2A Burlington regional. The Rockets (16-3-3) will take on Marmion at 7 p.m. Saturday for the regional championship. Marmion defeated Aurora Central Catholic 5-1 in Wednesday's other semifinal.
