Wheeling Township among busiest early voting locations

Wheeling Township Hall was among the busiest polling locations in suburban Cook County last week as 1,164 voters cast ballots there during the first week of early voting, according to figures released by the office of Cook County Clerk David Orr.

The voters were among nearly 17,000 who went to the polls during the early-voting period that began Oct. 11, the clerk's office reported. The township hall was the second busiest location, behind only Orland Park Village Hall, where about 1,300 people voted last week. Friday was the busiest day, with 3,746 early voters participating, according to the clerk's office.

“With 11 days remaining in the early voting period including (Monday), we're on track to exceed early voting totals from this February's primary and the gubernatorial election in 2006, Orr said.

However, turnout was far below the 2008 Presidential Election, when more than 43,000 voters cast ballots in the first week.

Early Voting continues until Thursday, Oct. 28. All sites are open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays. Ten locations will be open on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visit cookcountyclerk.com for a full list of early voting sites and hours.
