Enjoy old-time Halloween fun at county museum

It is time once again for the McHenry County Historical Society Museum at 6422 Main St. in Union to become the setting for Halloween high jinks.

On Wednesday, Oct. 20, visitors become the audience for an old time 1939 WLS radio show called, “On the Air With Aunt Em. There will be two seatings, one at 6:45 p.m. and one at 8 p.m.

As audience members, you'll watch the behind the scenes activities as performers read their lines, add sound effects, sing jingles and usher in guests who are there to participate in a special program honoring the life of 83-year-old Emma Van Alstyne, Marengo resident and WLS's oldest radio personality. As participants yourself, you will be asked to heed the warnings about local Halloween mischief.

In addition to the performance, refreshments will be served in the 1895 West Harmony one room school located on the museum grounds. For those interested in telling ghost stories and toasting marshmallows there will be an opportunity to enjoy that outside around the campfire.

Admission prices for those who are not members are $5, or $3 for students and seniors, age 60 and older. For information, call (815) 923-2267. Visit mchsonline.org.
