Scouting Schaumburg at Palatine

Schaumburg (5-2, 2-1) at Palatine (4-3, 2-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Chic Anderson Stadium

Last week: Schaumburg d. Conant 42-21; Palatine lost to Fremd 17-16

Outlook: Schaumburg rebounded last week to get in the playoffs for the third straight year but still hopes to possibly win at least a share of the MSL West title. Palatine needs to rebound to still have a shot at a fourth straight playoff berth and a possible title share. "I'm expecting it should be a huge battle," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "They're talented and they play extremely hard." A key to stopping RB Shepard Little (1,278 yards, 16 TDs) and QB Mark Iannotti (1,325 total yards, 12 TDs) is Palatine having RB-LB Jim Smearman able to go after he injured his leg and hand last week. "He's a pretty tough kid and he thinks he's playing," said Palatine coach Tyler Donnelly. "He knows how important this game is and we'll wait to see how he responds." Palatine also lost OL Layne Kirch to a broken ankle on the first play last week but C.J. Machnik had started 6 games. Schaumburg won 28-21 last year in a series Palatine leads 13-10.
